Pastoral Consultation offers a less clinical approach to trauma therapy and addiction management. You may consider a session if you are experiencing emotional difficulties and wish to address these matters in the context of religion and spirituality. Confidentiality is underscored in this theraputic relationship.
As an Ordained Minister, I am not a medical doctor and do not prescribe medication. In situations where a more clinical approach can be helpful, I will refer clients to a psychiatrist, or a medical professional who specializes in treating mental, emotional and behavioral disorders. In many cases, I work within a team of other health care providers. For example, research demonstrates that most people who suffer from depression respond well to a treatment regime combining therapies that cover physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects.
The Healing Model that most closely addresses the underlying causes that I work with is outlined in Michael Brown's book: "The Presence Process". This is not the source of my training, but offers a very good explaination of the inter-relationships of the physical, mental, emotional levels of childhood wounding, and a self directed method of connecting with these layers of our learned behavior patterns.
